I'm a second year math teacher at Oconomowoc High School. My background and interests have strongly influenced the way that I try to teach. I hated math in high school; I saw little relevance in memorizing procedures. I began to love math in college when I discovered its power in modeling, particularly in the social sciences. I then worked at a software company where I didn't use the math I had studied, but found that my habits of mind and skill set were extremely valuable.
Thus my teaching interests focus on reasoning, computational thinking, modeling, assessment, and technology. I try to incorporate these in as much of my teaching as possible, but progress is slow and steady.
